We are connecting the campaign's message with our community gathering presentation in March. Our class, along with the rest of third grade, will present a song to the school that expresses the importance of our words and always remembering to be respectful. You are welcome to join us on Wednesday, March 2 for the community gathering to see the presentation. If your child would like to practice at home you can look up the song "Speak Life" by Toby Mac on Youtube and see the lyrics listed at the end of the email for changed words. https://youtu.be/7rK6O0YtBRY Fraction Friendship Party On Friday, February 12th in the afternoon, our third grade classes will be getting together to celebrate friendship and fractions! The kiddos will participate in different games, art projects and activities all using the fraction skills that we will be learning in class. One of the activities will be to make a friendship trail mix. We will be looking for families to donate some of the supplies. Please click the link below if you would be willing to donate food or your time to this event. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c45adad28a3f94-friendship1 Learners also drew names today and will be coming home with them taped into their planner. They should make a card for each of the three students that they drew - remember that they shouldn't buy things and its a kindness challenge for them. Handwritten notes/sentiments and decorated card. Students also have 3 cards in their folder that they can use or they can make their own. Report Cards Every learner took home tonight in their backpacks a report card envelope. In the envelope you will also find two Handwriting Without Tears cursive sheets that show the proper formation of letters. There is also a handout that has a variety of questions prompts that you can use with your child when reading with them at night. Please take some time to review the report card and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Coin Collection Magician The Glacier Edge community is so generous that the school exceeded their coin challenge goal this past week. As a reward for their dedication, this coming Thursday we will get to attend a magic show here at school! Fractions This week we began our first lessons about fractions. We have started discovering ways to represent fractions as numerals and in pictures. Next steps include finding equivalent fractions, placing fractions on the number line and comparing fractions. We will be starting our seminar format after another week or two of homeroom lessons. Magnets/Force and Motion In science, we are allowing learners an opportunity to mix with other third grade classrooms to learn about two different topics. This week the Badgers have been focused on learning about magnetism and the Wildcats have been engaging with force and motion. Learners will continue learning about the same topics for two more weeks and then switch. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Amy Changed Lyrics to "Speak Life" "Speak Life" Lyrics Some days life feels perfect Other days, it just ain't workin' The good, the bad, the right, the wrong And everything in between Yo it's crazy, amazing We can turn our heart through the words we say Mountains crumble with every syllable Hope can live or die So be kind, be kind To the deadest darkest night Be kind, be kind When the sun won't shine and you don't know why Look into the eyes of the broken hearted Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope You speak love, you speak You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh Some days the tongue gets twisted Other day my thoughts just fall apart I do, I don't, I will, I won't It's like I'm drowning in the deep Well, it's crazy to imagine Words from my lips as the arms of compassion Mountains crumble with every syllable Hope can live or die So be kind, be kind To the deadest darkest night Be kind, be kind When the sun won't shine and you don't know why Look into the eyes of the broken hearted Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope You speak love, you speak You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh Lift your head a little higher Spread the love like fire Hope will fall like rain When you are kind with the words you say Raise your thoughts a little higher Use your words to inspire Joy will fall like rain when you are kind with the things you say Lift your head a little higher Spread the love like fire Hope will fall like rain When you are kind with the words you say So be kind, be kind To the deadest darkest night Be kind, be kind When the sun won't shine and you don't know why Look into the eyes of the broken hearted Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope You speak love, you speak You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh You are kind, oh oh oh oh oh Some days life feels perfect

A great topic discussed by the writer as the students find it quite interesting. After the busy schedules of study the students get only one day for relaxation. They use to go for a picnic to enjoy themselves.
