We will leave school at 8:15 and return at 2:15 on Wednesday. The whole third grade will be in three groups and we will all rotate between the same three stations from 9:00am-12:30pm. Here are the three stations we will be rotating between: Dairy Cattle Center, Biotechnology Workshop, L.R. Ingersoll Physics Museum. *We will be having a late lunch, so please make sure your students eat a big breakfast at home. We will be using our school breakfast as a snack. If you still think your learner will need an extra snack, please make sure to pack one. Here is the dictado for next week: Since we are nearing the close of school, we thought we would ask you what you would change about this year? Between all the events, which have been your favorites? Content Areas: *Literacy: We have continued working in literacy on persuasive writing. We are continuing to expand our familiarity of of using the OREO structure for our persuasive writing. Learners have been working with stories that provide positive connections to examples of persuasion through reading stories like "I wanna Iguana". Next week we will be working on using persuasive language and transition words to add into our persuasive writing. In book groups we have been focusing on connecting to ideas we have previously been working with related to character feeling and text evidence. Students worked to identify a characters feeling and then support their reason with text evidence. *Math: In Measurement in Data this week we continued working on our understanding of time, creating hours of operations for the learner's businesses and began working with liquid measurement. Students worked with understanding the conversions between different units of measurements (Milliliters and liters), (gallon's, quarts, pints and cups). We did some interactive stations measuring different unlabeled containers and created a bar graph from this information. We also worked with word problems around creating a lemonade stand to further our understanding of liquid measurements. *Science: We continued our studying of heredity this week. In class we learned about the differences between inherited traits and learned behaviors and began creating our own monsters using our understanding of punnett squares, recessive traits and dominant traits. We will also use these in connection with some of our persuasive writing. Next week we will have our final activities in heredity and close this out with a final quiz on Friday May 20th or Monday May 23rd (depending on timing, I will let you know as the week progresses, but lets plan on the 20th). *Social Studies: We finished working with Asia this week and began working on South America. We will be learning about South America through our work with the musical, Rumpus in the Rainforest, as well as in class activities. The students are already doing a wonderful job with Rumpus. Please continue to help them practice the songs and their lines for the performance :) Have a great weekend and please let me know if you have any questions!
