Happy Friday Families!
It was great to see so many of you last night and see how excited the kiddos were to show you their work (and the crayfish!). If that news hasn't come home, the crayfish have arrived! Some of you asked about the Osmo system, here is the link to it: OSMO LINK. If you are interested in the buy one/give one offer, it will come in a link after you complete your order. Monday is our field Trip to the High School. We will be researching the prairie, wetlands and forest. Students will continue their studies of ecosystems and how the living things in the ecosystem effect it. Please make sure your kiddo is wearing tennis shoes, long pants and dressed for the weather as we will be outside all afternoon. Friday is Opera for the Young - 9:30-10:30 in the gym. The program will be "The Magic Flute" and will include some of our own stars: Kate A, Cadence B, Mason G, Caidence N, Carter P, Quinn S, Donald S, Sophia L and Amireth ZB! We are super excited to see their talents. Our test for Unit 1 in math will be on Friday, October 16th. Students will be given the same test as they took at the beginning of this unit (for a pretest) and we will look at their growth. Some kiddos have been doing really well making choices during work time and have been working hard to get their work done in class. Others will have extra math homework this weekend and next week because they haven't been working as hard as they needed to during work time in class. Each Student will have their most current results for what needs to be completed on Monday, so please help them remember Monday night to check for math homework to be done! Speaking of homework, this week the structured paragraph is on "My Favorite Holiday." Please remember that students are asked to complete this assignment in parts and are not expected to finish the whole writing in one sitting. We are trying to develop stamina and skills as they write. There is also a free write as always. Structured paragraphs should be at least 8 sentences in length and should be an edited version from the week. Free writes should be a full page skipped lines, with the date at the top. Please keep the journal you are working in at home until both entries are done, then send it in with your student. No excuse words are on the website under Word Wall - please DO NOT spell these words for your student. They should be editing for these words and should be able to spell them on their own - if not, they need to have the website up while writing wot check their work. Students also have a place value math sheet in their homework folder complete. This should be returned ASAP as this skill is for Friday's test and if I need to meet with kiddos to discuss this, we want to know who needs the help so we can plan the lessons for student need. At recess today we had more problems with football, so the EA's have said there will be no more football privileges for the coming week at recess. Hopefully after a week, students will be able to work together and play together better and we can give them back their game. There will be an email coming out this weekend to sign up for fall data conferences. This will be a time to discuss the data that has been collected on your student thus far and to get your opinion on how the first few weeks have been going and if you have any questions thus far. Please sign up for one of the spots so we can talk about where your kiddos are thus far. Dates to remember: Monday is Gym/music Box tops are being collected this month as well and are due on Friday, Oct. 23rd. Picture Retakes are on Tuesday, the 20th. Next library day isn't until Monday the 19th. Fall Party - Friday October 23rd No school on the 29th or 30th of this month. Have a great weekend! Enjoy the great weather.
